Political Personalities

Which Politician Are You Based On Your Personality?

Compiled by Samhita Krishnan

Joseph Biden embodies the Loyalist personality. Despite his ambitious and confident leadership, he grapples with indecisiveness and self-doubt, often taking considerable time to make decisions. According to an article from the New York Times, Biden can take days or weeks to make up his mind because he second guesses himself and others in his cabinet. That being said, as president, he has shown courage in addressing pandemic economic struggles, advocating for vaccinations and inspiring civic engagement.

Achievers want to make a difference in the world. They are often the most successful and well-liked because — compared to other personality types — they believe in themselves and their talents the most. They are, however, also motivated by a need for attention and admiration and are obsessed with their public image. Ramaswamy is very much preoccupied with gaining attention through political takes many deem radical. His belief in his campaign is unwavering, and despite his share of controversial statements, Ramaswamy is still confident he will win.

Marianne Williamson could be considered the “hippie” of the current presidential candidates. Her spiritually informed approach to politics has been considered unorthodox, leading to both support and criticism. Her campaign has called for reparations for the descendants of those enslaved in the U.S. and promoted now-debunked medical theories — particularly in regards to mental illness. As an Individualist, Williamson’s campaign has been intent on promoting self-acceptance and love while also working to spur progressive social and economic reforms.

As a Reformer, Haley possesses a strong moral compass and fights for what she believes is right. As an activist and changemaker, she seeks improvement while still being mindful of public opinion. Reformers, however, always want to be right and can be impervious to criticism in order to avoid being judged by others: When Vivek Ramaswamy brought up Haley’s contradictory views on TikTok during the third GOP presidential primary debate, she refused to acknowledge the criticism and instead opted to call Ramaswamy “scum.”

Cenk Uygur is known for his strong, opinionated personality, and as a political commentator, Uygur makes the most of his assertiveness. While most interpretations of the Constitution would bar him from the role — given that he was born in Istanbul, Turkey — Uygur is still determined to shoot his shot. Uygur supports his candidacy with Schneider v. Rusk, a landmark case that ruled that naturalized and native-born citizens cannot be treated differently. This argument in and of itself demonstrates why Uygur perfectly fits into the Challenger category.

Enthusiasts are the happy-go-lucky people — humorous, loving and playful. As seen in the primaries, Chris Christie is one of the only Republican candidates who’s independent of people’s views or perceptions of him. Enthusiasts are also known for their kind nature: Before rebutting Marco Rubio in the 2016 New Hampshire debate, he prefaced by saying, “I like Marco Rubio, and he is a smart person and a good guy.” That being said, Christie struggles when it comes to impulsiveness and impatience. At times, he can lash out unexpectedly in conversations with others.
